WICHITA — Meta Jacob, 96, a former longtime Parsons area resident, died at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. She had lived in Wichita since 1993.
She was born Oct. 14, 1914, at Mound Valley to Albert and Eliza (Spoonamore) Nelson. She grew up in Mound Valley and graduated from Mound Valley High School.
On Oct. 20, 1940, she married Max A. Jacob at Mound Valley. After their marriage they lived in Parsons, where Mr. Jacob was employed by the Katy Railroad. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1974.
Mrs. Jacob was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Parsons and in earlier years was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and of the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees.
Survivors include a son, Max Jacob Jr. of Raymore, Mo.; a daughter, Martha Allen and her husband, Larry, of Park City; two granddaughters, Farrah Harris and her husband, Dave, of Wichita, and Michelle Steinke and her husband, Jason, of Park City; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a sister, Letha Butts of Cherryvale.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Andy Nelson.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
