Lady Grizzlies JV softball goes 3-1 in past two doubleheaders
The Labette County High School junior varsity softball team hosted Chanute Monday evening in Altamont for a doubleheader.
The Lady Grizzlies defeated Chanute 5-1 and 7-3.
Kara Bogner took to the mound in game one and tossed four strikeouts and walked just two.
The Grizzly bats were a tremendous asset in the first game with Darcy Cole going 3 for 3 at the dish and Haley Nalley and Chellsea Harness each adding a pair of hits.

Altamont hosts USD 506 Invitational
Altamont Middle School hosted the USD 506 Invitational track meet in Altamont Monday afternoon.
In total, 14 events for a boys and girls division took place.
Coffeyville came home the first-place finish in the girls division with 79 points while Meadow View Black (67) took second and Altamont (54) and St. Paul (54) tied to round out the top three.

Saints compete at 506 Invitational
The St. Patrick Catholic School track and field team competed in the 506 Invitational meet Monday afternoon.
The team had two first-place finishes, one each in boys and girls.
Morgan Hizey took home first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:42.20, some nine seconds better than second place.

CHANUTE — The Lady Grizzlies have reached double digits.
The Labette County High School softball team improved to 10-0 on the season and 8-0 within the Southeast Kansas League with a pair of victories over Chanute (3-7 overall, 3-5 SEK) on Friday here.

PHS hosts fishing tourney
The Parsons High School fishing club hosted an open fishing tourney for high school students at Bone Creek Lake Saturday morning.
Teams left the ramp with their boat captains at 7:30 a.m. and weighed in at 1 p.m.
Due to a batch of thunderstorms, boats had a late take-off. However, the big bass of the tourney was caught within minutes of the beginning of action and 100 yards from the launch site.

Labette baseball defeats Chanute, leads game two before suspension
CHANUTE — The Grizzlies got an SEK win and a big lead in another league contest Friday evening.
The Labette County High School baseball team improved to 6-5 overall and 4-3 within the Southeast Kansas League when they defeated Chanute 10-5 Friday here.

LCHS tennis wins invite in Chanute
The Labette County High School tennis team won its first varsity tournament of the season Friday when the LCHS boys traveled to the Chanute Invitational Tournament in Chanute.
Labette County defeated, Iola and Columbus and took first overall in No. 2 singles.

The Parsons High School round robin tennis tournament completed about one-third of its matches here Friday afternoon before match play was stopped because of an approaching storm.

OSWEGO — The St. Paul Indians swept the Oswego Indians Thursday in a baseball doubleheader.
St. Paul won game one 5-1 and game two 11-6.

Zaleski takes second in ABA tournament
FORT GIBSON LAKE, Okla. — Local tournament angler Jim Zaleski took second place recently in an American Bass Anglers tournament on Fort Gibson Lake in northeast Oklahoma.
Eighteen anglers participated in the event in pursuit of prize money and points that could earn them a berth to the ABA National Championship on Grand Lake in October.

The Vikings took advantage of familiar surroundings Thursday afternoon.
The Parsons High School golf team took second as a team at their invitational golf meet at the Katy Golf Course in Parsons.

Labette Community College wrestling coach Joe Renfro has been named the National Wrestling Coaches’ Association Coach of the Year.
Renfro, who helped lead the Labette wrestling team to its second NJCAA national title in 2012 was also named the NJCAA Coach of the Year following the tourney.
