PITTSBURG — The Labette County Grizzlies were hoping to win the first boys league track title in school history.
But Coffeyville and Pittsburg’s depth was too much. In the end, the Grizzlies finished third in the team standings at the 2013 SEK League Track Meet on Thursday at Pittsburg High School.

SEK TRACK: Russell runs to league titles

PITTSBURG — Abe Russell expected to win the 800-meter dash.
But the mile?
Russell wasn’t exactly the favorite in that one.
But the Parsons High School senior used a late charge to stun the field in the 1600, earning the close victory with a late lunge at the finish line.
The win gave Russell not one, but two individual league titles on Thursday at the 2013 SEK League Track Meet at Pittsburg High School.

Labette Community College had seven players listed on the 2013 NJCAA All-Region VI Division II District E Softball Team.

Swimmers compete at league meet
OSAWATOMIE — Swimmers from Parsons, Labette County and St. Paul competed at the 2013 Interleague Meet in Osawatomie on Wednesday.
Shannon Dunlay of Parsons took third place in the 500 yard freestyle, finishing in 6:30. Dunlay finished fourth in the 200 free with a time of 2:20.
Also for Parsons, Sydney Markley took fourth place in the 50 free with a time of 28.03. Markley placed fifth in the 100 free, finishing in 1:02.

The postseason tourney begins on Monday at two sites.

Regional softball: Vikings will meet Iola, Grizzlies draw Mulvane
The Parsons High School softball team will take on Iola at 3 p.m. on Monday in a play-in game of the Chanute Class 4A Softball Regional.
The Lady Vikings (3-13) are seeded ninth and the Fillies (4-11) are seeded eighth.

The offense was hard to come by for the Parsons High School varsity girls softball team on Tuesday.
The Lady Vikings scored just one run in two games against Independence. The lack of offense resulted in two league losses.
Independence won game one 6-1 and the visitors took game two 13-0.

CHANUTE — The Parsons High School boys golf team competed at the Chanute Invitational on Monday at Quarry Stone Golf Course.
Bryan Walker of Parsons finished 19th overall with an 88. Joey Sanders took 23rd with his 90.
