LCHS softball earns first win
COLUMBUS — The Labette County High School softball team earned a 6-5 victory over Columbus on Monday. It was the team’s first win of the season.
Columbus earned a split by taking game two 17-7.
In the first game, Columbus led 5-2 when the Lady Grizzlies scored three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Taya Leech hit a home run for Labette County, and also had a single.

COLUMBUS — The Labette County Grizzlies swept a baseball doubleheader from Columbus on Monday, winning game one 12-0, and game two 9-2.
In the first game, Klay Weaver limited Columbus to just one hit. Mason Vance went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs, while Austin Yanez and Parker Grant added two runs apiece. Hurley is new Oswego football coach
Travis Hurley will take over the football coaching duties at Oswego High School.
Hurley’s hire was approved by the school board on Monday. Hurley was an assistant at Labette County this past season, but has head coaching experience. He was Erie’s head coach for a couple of seasons.
Hurley will take over for Travis Burk, who resigned the position after one season.

LCC baseball takes three of four from Allen County
The Labette Community College baseball team took three of four games from Allen County. The first three games were played over the weekend in Iola, with game four being played Monday afternoon in Parsons. LCC won Monday’s game 9-0.
Allen County beat LCC 3-1 on Saturday.

PITTSBURG — Michaela O’Brien and Dontae Johnson both got hot from behind the arc at the 2013 KSEK/KLKC Via Christi All-Star Basketball Games.

Parsons hosts track invite: Krull, Russell shine

Kaylee Krull and Abe Russell led the way for the hosts at Friday’s Parsons Invitational Track Meet.
A Parsons High School junior distance runner, Krull had two first place finishes at the meet, which featured 12 teams.
Krull took first place in the 1600 with a time of 5:38.

LCC softball sweeps Hutchinson
An offensive explosion propelled the Labette Community College softball team to a 12-5 win over Hutchinson in game one of a doubleheader on Friday.
Labette completed the sweep by taking game two 9-3.
“We picked up two good wins against a very well coached softball team,” LCC Coach Ryan Phillips said. “This was probably one of the best overall offensive games we have had this season.”

ST. PAUL — St. Paul beat Jayhawk-Linn in walk-off fashion on Thursday, winning 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader. The second game was called off due to darkness.

Vikings drop two to Blue Comets
CHANUTE — The Parsons High School baseball team began SEK League play on Thursday with two games at Chanute.
The host Blue Comets won both games against the Vikings.
Chanute took game one 8-4. The Comets won the second game 13-3.

WINFIELD — The Parsons High School girls swim team competed at Winfield on Tuesday.
Shannon Dunlay of Parsons took first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a personal best time of 6:31. The time was also a state consideration time.
