Lady Vikings, Indians compete at state meet
TOPEKA — The Kansas Class 5-4-3-2-1A State Swimming and Diving Championships were held Friday and Saturday in Topeka.
Three athletes from Parsons High School and two from St. Paul High School competed alongside the state’s best.
Sydney Markley of Parsons advanced to the finals of the 100 yard freestyle with a 13th place finish in the preliminaries on Friday. Markley finished with a time of 59.77. The top 16 moved on to the finals.

St. Paul athletes qualify for state meet
BURLINGTON — St. Paul High School athletes competed at the Southern Coffey County Class 1A Track Regional at Burlington High School on Friday.
St. Paul distance runner Jenny O’Bryan advanced to state by winning gold in two events. The freshman took first place in the girls mile with a time of 5:42 and also won the 3200, finishing in 12:33.
St. Paul’s Josie Albertini finished fourth in the javelin (101’0) to advance to state.

IOLA — As Abe Russell crossed the finish line, he pumped his fist into the air and let out a celebratory scream.
Moments after qualifying for state, Jon Kelly was just looking for a place to throw up.

LCHS basketball camps are May 28-31
The 2013 Labette County Basketball Camp will be held from Tuesday, May 28 to Friday, May 31 at LCHS. The camp is under the direction of LCHS Boys Coach Brad Smith, LCHS Girls Coach Kristi Snider and assistant coaches Clint Witty, Brian Tucker and Heather Wilson. Current and former LCHS players will assist with the camp.

Is the Parsons-area a hotbed for golf or what?
The area will be well-represented at state golf tourneys all over the state. For starters, Labette County will taking a full team to the Class 4A State Golf Tournament in Cheney. The Grizzlies took first place at the Parsons 4A Regional.

Oswego girls earn eighth seed for state tournament
The Oswego High School softball team will have to face the number-one seed right away at the Class 2-1A State Softball Tournament.
The Indians are seeded eighth with a record of 8-10.
Oswego will take on number-one seed Cottonwood Falls-Chase County on Thursday at 5 p.m. in a first round contest at Emporia’s Trusler Sports Complex. Chase County is now 23-0.

St. Paul earns top seed for 2-1A state tourney
The St. Paul Indians are the top seed in the Class 2-1A State Baseball Tournament. The Indians are now 14-2 on the season.
The Indians will begin the state tourney on Thursday at 11 a.m. against eighth-seeded Medicine Lodge (9-10). Medicine Lodge is the defending state champ in 2-1A, and they also knocked off St. Paul in last year’s semifinals.

Swimmers from Parsons and St. Paul High Schools will begin competition at the 2013 KSHSAA Class 5-4-3-2-1A State Girls Swimming and Diving Championships today at Topeka’s Hummer Sports Complex.
The 5-1A swimming events begin today.
Parsons High School has just three swimmers on the squad this season, but all three have advanced to state by swimming qualifying times during the regular season

All season long, the main goal for the Labette County High School boys golf team was a simple one — a trip to state.

Chanute wins SEK League's all-sports award
Chanute is the winner of the 2012-13 Martin Rohde Southeast Kansas League All-Sports Award.
This is the second time that Chanute has won the award. The first time came in 2006-07. Chanute won the award while winning four sports, the fewest by an award winner since 2010.

UNIONTOWN — The St. Paul High School softball team hammered Altoona-Midway 19-2 on Tuesday in a first-round contest of the Uniontown Class 2-1A Softball Regional. With the win, the Indians advanced to the regional semifinals. Third-seeded St. Paul will take on second-seeded Uniontown at 4:45 p.m. today. LCC's Lutz signs with D-II school in Florida
Labette Community College sophomore basketball player Ashley Lutz will continue her athletic and academic career at Barry University, a NCAA Division II school in Miami Shores, Fla.

YATES CENTER — Two dominating wins secured a regional title for the St. Paul Indians.
Earning run-rule victories in both the semifinals and the title game, the Indians won the Yates Center Class 2-1A Baseball Regional at Kluender Field on Wednesday.

The Oswego High School boys golf team took second place at the Uniontown Class 2A Regional on Monday.

OSWEGO — The Oswego High School softball team is going to state.
The host Lady Indians defeated Chetopa 1-0 in the title game of the Oswego Class 2-1A Regional on Monday.
