Cherryvale splits with Eureka
EUREKA — The host Eureka team defeated the Cherryvale Chargers 68-35 here Friday night in a high school boys’ game.
The Cherryvale girls defeated Eureka 57-41.
In the boys game, Eureka overpowered the visiting Chargers from the start. The home team had a 25-8 advantage after a quarter and built that lead to 55-21 at halftime.

Grizzlies hold on for OT win vs. Vikings

ALTAMONT — The storied history of the Parsons-Labette County rivalry added another memorable chapter on Friday night.
And it needed an extra session to determine a winner.

LCHS keeps its title chances alive

ALTAMONT—The Labette County High School girls basketball team kept their league title hopes alive with a dominating 66-27 victory over rival Parsons on Friday night at Harrison Gymnasium.
Taking advantage of turnover after turnover, and with some hot-shooting all night long, the host Grizzlies had a 30-point lead by halftime en route to the blowout win.

The Pittsburg Class 4A Wrestling Regional began on Friday afternoon at Pittsburg High School, with wrestlers from Parsons and Labette County competing.
The regional continues on Saturday.

Parsons at Labette County
The Parsons Vikings headed to Altamont on Friday night to take on the rival LCHS Grizzlies.
In the girls game, Labette County won 66-27.
In the varsity boys game, Labette defeated Parsons 55-49 in overtime. The Vikings had a five-point lead in the fourth quarter, but could not hold on.

PHS, LCHS meet tonight
The Parsons High School basketball teams will take on rival Labette County tonight in Altamont. The varsity girls play at 6, with the boys to follow at 8 p.m.
The LCHS girls are now 11-6 on the season and 8-2 in the SEK League, which is currently second in the league standings.
The Parsons girls are 1-17 and 0-11 in the league.
The Labette boys are now 12-5 and 5-5 in the SEK. Parsons is 3-15 overall and 1-10 in league play.

LCC women win, men lose at Fort Scott
FORT SCOTT —The Labette Community College women’s basketball team held on late for a 48-46 victory over Fort Scott on Wednesday night at Arnold Arena.
The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for LCC’s women.
The Cardinals used an 11-1 run to end the first half. That scoring spurt gave LCC a 23-19 lead at the half.
Labette led 38-29 early in the second half, but the Greyhounds got to within five at 45-40.

The season is on the line this weekend for area high school wrestlers.
The Parsons Vikings and Labette County Grizzlies will be competing at the Pittsburg Class 4A Regional.
The top four in each weight class will advance to state, while the season will end for those who don’t.

Grizzlies sign with Fort Scott
Two Labette County High School seniors signed their letters of intent on Wednesday to play football for Fort Scott Community College. Stuart Gatewood, son of Kristy Hamilton, and Cole Reazin, son of Richard and Kim Reazin, both made it official with a signing ceremony at LCHS on Wednesday. Also pictured is LCHS Coach Jesse Ybarra.

FORT SCOTT — The Fort Scott High School girls basketball team showed why they're in first place in the SEK League.
The host Tigers blew out the visiting Parsons Vikings 52-27 on Tuesday night.
With a tough inside-outside offensive attack, Fort Scott simply had too much firepower for the Vikings.

FORT SCOTT — The Parsons Vikings were likely feeling a sense of deja vu on Tuesday night.
For the second time this season, the Vikings were in a close game with the Fort Scott Tigers.

The road to a repeat has begun.
The Labette Community College wrestling team dominated the field in taking first place at the 2013 NJCAA West/Central District Regional Tournament at Pratt on Saturday.
The all-day meet is the qualifier for the national tournament. The defending national champs had all 10 of their wrestlers qualify for the national tournament, a good sign that a repeat is possible.

The Labette Cardinals were unable to get it done in crunch time, and the Independence Pirates held on late for an 82-81 win on Saturday in Jayhawk East men’s basketball action.

Altamont Lady Eagles finish perfect season
The Altamont Middle School Lady Eagles completed a perfect 16-0 season by defeating Edna in the title game of the USD 506 Tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles beat Bartlett 61-12 in the first round. Tristan Gegg scored 23 points, and had nine steals and seven assists. Reid Hentzen added 16 points and had four steals, while Maria Payne had eight points.

Chargers, Red Devils fare well at Tri-Valley League tourney
EUREKA — The Cherryvale and Erie High School wrestling teams had several individuals place at the Tri-Valley League Wrestling Championships over the weekend.
