Grizzlies split duals with Comets, Mustangs

ALTAMONT — The Labette County Grizzlies split two wrestling duals on Thursday night at Harrison Gymnasium.
The Grizzlies knocked off former league rival Iola 36-33 before falling to state-ranked Chanute 61-9.

LCC hoops teams fall at Highland
HIGHLAND — An off shooting night was too much to overcome for the Labette Community College men’s basketball team on Wednesday night.
Highland defeated LCC 73-69 in conference play. The Cardinals shot 34 percent from the field (12-36) and were just 15-31 from the foul line in the close loss.

Chetopa girls fall short vs. Jayhawks
CHETOPA — Jayhawk-Linn rolled past Chetopa 50-17 in high school girls basketball action on Tuesday night.
“Despite poor shooting, the girls persevered and continued to push themselves throughout the entire game,” Chetopa Coach Lindsey Smith said. “The effort was there, and I was pleased with their persistence and work ethic.”

Oswego sweeps Uniontown
UNIONTOWN — The Oswego High School basketball teams swept Three Rivers League games from host Uniontown on Tuesday night.
In the girls game, Oswego won 50-45.
The Indians improved to 4-3 on the season, and 1-1 in the league.
Oswego’s boys won 55-43. The Indians led 20-9 after one quarter and 31-19 at intermission.
Three players from Oswego reached double figures, as Travis Schenker scored 15, Weston Eckermann had 13 and Brant Yeoman added 12.
Prep wrestling teams in action
The Parsons High School wrestling team will be in action tonight with duals at Jayhawk-Linn High School.
The Vikings will take on the host Jayhawks and Frontenac beginning at 5:30 p.m. It will be the first action of 2013 for the Vikings.
Also, the Labette County High School wrestling team will host duals tonight in Altamont.
The Grizzlies are hosting Chanute and Iola, with the action set to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Jayhawk Conference to split into three
divisions for basketball in 2013-14
The Kansas Jayhawk Conference will look a bit different next year when basketball season arrives. The conference’s college presidents approved a realignment plan that will create three divisions.
With the 2013-14 hoops season, the Jayhawk Conference will have a West Division, an East Division and an East Division II.

COFFEYVILLE — A furious fourth-quarter rally was too little, too late for the Parsons High School girls basketball team.
Coffeyville held off a late Parsons rally and beat the Vikings 61-52 on Tuesday night in SEK League action at Field Kindley’s Stoner Gymnasium.

CHETOPA — The Chetopa High School boys basketball team roared back from a slow start in the first quarter to roll to a 50-38 win over Jayhawk-Linn here Tuesday night.

ST. PAUL — The St. Paul Indians’ strong first quarter was too much to overcome for the visiting Marmaton Valley Wildcats Tuesday night.

Labette County’s Lane Rosenberg earned fifth place at 126 pounds.
