The Parsons 15-year-old Babe Ruth League team kicked off the 15-year-old Babe Ruth Tournament of Champions in Coffeyville with a 12-4 win over Southwest on Friday. Parsons scored five of its runs in the first inning and matched the effort in the second on the way to an 11-0 lead through 2 1/2 innings. Seventh- through 12th-grade students at Oswego High School and Middle School in the 2012-13 school year will have the opportunity to take their physicals at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at Oswego High School. All Oswego Middle School and Oswego High School students who will participate in athletics this year may attend.

Labette Health and local community physicians will be on hand from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Labette County High School cafeteria for physicals. Three local players, one coach selected for Babe Ruth Classic
Three local players have been selected to play in the annual Kansas Babe Ruth Classic in mid-August. The event combines the top players in the state in an exhibition between players from the East and West districts. The Parsons 13-year old All-Star team played this weekend in Baxter Springs, earning a second-place finish in the Babe Ruth District 5 tournament.
