The Parsons 15-year-old Babe Ruth League team kicked off the 15-year-old Babe Ruth Tournament of Champions in Coffeyville with a 12-4 win over Southwest on Friday. Seventh- through 12th-grade students at Oswego High School and Middle School in the 2012-13 school year will have the opportunity to take their physicals at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at Oswego High School. All Oswego Middle School and Oswego High School students who will participate in athletics this year may attend.

Three local players, one coach selected for Babe Ruth Classic
Three local players have been selected to play in the annual Kansas Babe Ruth Classic in mid-August. The event combines the top players in the state in an exhibition between players from the East and West districts. Two members from each of the eight teams entered in this weekend’s state tourney competed in the derby. Schibi stepped to the plate last and in need of two home runs to tie leader Cesar Breinga of Cimarron River. Schibi came up with four homers to win the event outright. Parsons team member Luke Wolgamott hit one home run and tied for third overall. Cyrus Kitchen of Osawatomie took first overall in the pitching contest. Parsons pitchers Noah Chalker and Drew Fuentez were entered in that event. The 11-year-old state tourney will kick off today in Winway Park at Sonny Johnson Field. Parsons will play Cimarron River at 7:30 p.m.

The Parsons 13-year old All-Star team played this weekend in Baxter Springs, earning a second-place finish in the Babe Ruth District 5 tournament.
