Local bowling leagues forming
The 2011-12 bowling season is near. The Senior Citizen League will begin the season at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 23 at Parsons Bowl. Most of the leagues will likely start the following week. Eighty percent of the Parsons Dolphins Swim Team’s races were good for personal bests over the weekend at the Tri-State Conference B Division Championships in Siloam Springs, Ark. Organizers postpone John Daley Open
The 2011 John Daley Open Tennis Tournament scheduled for Friday and Saturday has been postponed until Aug. 12-13. The tournament will still take place at the Forest Park tennis courts. Youth boys will be scheduled to start at 8 a.m. on Aug. 12, while girls will begin at 9 a.m. Adult men will play at 8 a.m. followed by adult women at 9 a.m. on Aug. 13. The Parsons Babe Ruth 14-year-old all-stars began play in the state tournament at Garden City on Friday with an 8-7 loss to Cimarron River. SEK Senior Tour at Katy
The SEK Senior Tour took its annual stop at the Katy Golf Club Thursday afternoon for the 2011 Katy Golf Course Senior Tournament. Sixty-seven golfers, up from 66 a year ago, competed in this year's tournament. Golfers completed a round of nine holes in the morning before taking lunch and finishing another nine in the afternoon for a total of 18 holes. Local earns honor
Jade Lambkins, a 2009 Labette County High School graduate, was recently honored by the Great Lakes Valley Conference as part of its Academic All-Conference team. Lambkins, a student and basketball player at Rockhurst University, received the honor for being one of 275 student-athletes in the GLVC to achieve a 3.3 GPA or better in the 2010-11 school year. Lambkins is the daughter of Melissa Perez and Gregory Lambkins.
