Chargers lose to Burlington
CHERRYVALE — The Cherryvale High School Chargers didn’t have an answer for Burlington’s Britton Curtis, who scored four touchdowns, including one 99-yard jaunt in the third quarter. Burlington won 47-12.
The loss puts Cherryvale’s record at 2-2 on the year.
Curtis Hewlett and Blake McGough scored Cherryvale’s only TDs on the night, both on lengthy plays.

CHANUTE — The Labette County High School volleyball team opened Southeast Kansas League play Thursday in Chanute with a triangular against Columbus and Chanute.

Oswego gets big win over Northeast
ARMA — The Oswego Indians evened their record in dominating fashion against Northeast of Arma on Friday night.
The Indians used a ground-and-pound game plan to control the game from beginning to end. The Indians scored twice in the first quarter, once on a 7-yard run by Bryce Thomson and the other on a 16-yard pass from Ethan Spore to Brant Yeoman. INDEPENDENCE — Independence High School defeated Labette County here Friday night 35-8.
The loss pushes the Grizzlies to 0-4 on the season.

Rained out contests from last week’s Parsons Police Youth Football League opening slate of games will be played over the next several days.
On Sunday, the Raiders vs. Cowboys and Chiefs vs. Erie games of the PPYFL lower division will begin at 1 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. respectively at Marvel Park Stadium in Parsons. In senior division action, the Vikings and Erie will play one another at 3:30 p.m.

Vikes run in Iola Tuesday
IOLA — The Parsons High School cross country team competed here at the Iola Invitational cross country meet Tuesday afternoon.
The Vikings got a first-place finish out of sophomore Kaylee Krull, who ran a race of 17:58 to win the varsity 4K.

Fuentez retains championship
Defending city champion Tony Fuentez once again captured the Jack Harris Memorial Cup this weekend with a 143 total in two rounds of golf at the Katy Golf Course.
The 36-hole tournament was played Saturday and Sunday. After golfers finished nine holes on Saturday due to stormy weather, the final 27 holes were played on Sunday.
Fuentez shot a 68 in his first round and a 75 in the second to score the 143.

The 7 & 3 Co-Ed Benefit Softball Tournament will take place in Parsons on Saturday.
The entry fee for the tourney is $100. There will be a seven home run limit each game with an out after the seventh.

The Parsons High School girls’ golf team enjoyed the fruits of excellent playing conditions and some home-field advantage Monday afternoon with a second-place finish at its home meet.
The Lady Vikings shot a 211, just seven strokes back of the winning number from Girard at the invite, which was hosted by the Katy Golf Course.

Labette Co. JV upends rival; frosh lose in OT
The Parsons and Labette County High School junior varsity football teams went to battle Monday at Marvel Park Stadium. After suffering a 21-20 loss at the varsity level Friday, the Grizzlies got a bit of revenge in the JV game with a 27-6 win. The win moved the LCHS JV to 2-1.

The St. Patrick Catholic School Lady Saints won two matches in Oswego Monday evening.
The Saints defeated Uniontown 19-25, 25-20, 15-13 in the first match and knocked off host Oswego 25-18, 11-25, 15-11 in the second match.

Parsons Middle School and Iola met up Monday in Parsons for MS volleyball.
In the seventh-grade B game, Parsons won the first set 25-21, but Iola stormed back with a 29-27 win in set two and a 15-8 win in the decisive third set.

The Labette County High School volleyball team competed in a tournament in Pittsburg hosted by the Purple Dragons on Saturday.
Labette began the day with two wins but finished with two losses to go 2-2 overall.
The Lady Grizzlies opened with a three-set victory over Nevada, Mo. They started with a 25-13 win before Nevada won the second set 25-18 to knot things at 1-1. In the final set, Labette won 25-23 to take the match.

The Labette Community College volleyball team moved to 4-9 on the season Saturday by going 1-3 in three matches in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Labette earned a 22-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-20 win over Southwestern to start the tourney.
Next up was a match with MCC, which Labette lost 27-25, 25-20, 21-25.
