Local earns honor
Jade Lambkins, a 2009 Labette County High School graduate, was recently honored by the Great Lakes Valley Conference as part of its Academic All-Conference team. Lambkins, a student and basketball player at Rockhurst University, received the honor for being one of 275 student-athletes in the GLVC to achieve a 3.3 GPA or better in the 2010-11 school year. Lambkins is the daughter of Melissa Perez and Gregory Lambkins.

The Parsons Babe Ruth all-star team advanced to the 12-year-old state tourney, which began Friday with a game against Belle Plaine, thanks to a runner-up finish at the Babe Ruth district tourney hosted by Independence. Participants at the third annual Parsons Kids’ Fishing Derby on Aug. 6 at Tolen Creek Park will honor a former Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks employee and volunteer for his years of service and dedication to making the outdoors more accessible to children.
