PHS swimmer gets two bids for state tourney
Parsons High School senior Alex Oas will return to the state swimming tourney once again after qualifying for two events at Wednesday's Inter-League Championships.
Oas will swim the 200 medley and the 100 breaststroke with qualifying times of 2:19.48 and 1:09.56 in those events.
He is seeded in the top 20 in both events entering the state tourney, including his 15th seed in the 100 breaststroke.

10 LCC wrestlers headed for nationals
The Labette Community College wrestling team will send all 10 weights to the NJCAA National Tournament for the second year in a row after the No.2-ranked Cardinals breezed to another NJCAA West/Central District title on Saturday.
Neosho County Community College hosted this year’s national qualifier. In total, eight teams competed at the event.

Lady Cards open season with 5-0 run through tourney
The No. 7-ranked Labette Community College softball team got off to a strong start with a 5-0 finish in the 2012 Cowtown Classic Invitational Softball Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas over the weekend.
The Cardinals began play on Friday with a 5-4 win over Hill College, a 7-2 win over Ranger College and an 11-8 win over Coastal Bend College.
On Saturday, Labette defeated North Central Texas College 6-3 and Paris College 12-11.

Start of LCC baseball season postponed
The Labette Community College baseball team’s trip to Seminole, Okla. scheduled for Saturday was cancelled due to weather.
The Cardinal’s next scheduled game is set for a 1 p.m. start on Wednesday in Parsons. A doubleheader with Evangel College is scheduled.

5 JV Grizzlies place in Burlington
Five Labette County HS junior varsity wrestlers brought home medals from the 22-team Burlington Wildcat Invitational on Saturday.
Frosh Martin Woldum and sophomore Dallas Royer led the Grizzlies with golds at 138 and 220 pounds. Aaron McCoach was second at 152 pounds, Corey Graham took second at 220 pounds and Ryan McKenzie was third at 152 pounds.

Labette drops two
The Labette Community College men's basketball team lost its third game in a row 69-62 to Independence (13-11 overall, 8-4 KJCCC) on Saturday in Indy.
The Cardinals drop to 15-9 overall and 5-7 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Eastern Division play with the loss.
The Labette men have lost three in a row after winning five of their previous six.
However, those loss have come to the top three teams in the KJCCC Eastern Division.

Vikings defeat Titans
COLUMBUS — It took a bit of effort, but the Vikings bounced back Friday.
Parsons High School entered Friday's Southeast Kansas League game with the Titans of Columbus High School coming off only their second loss of the season in a 49-44 defeat by the Fort Scott Tigers Tuesday.

COLUMBUS — If you're going to beat the Vikings, you'll need to score a lot of points.
The Lady Vikings won their fifth game in a row and improved to 12-4 overall and 4-0 in Southeast Kansas League play Friday with a 67-47 victory over Columbus (4-13 overall, 0-5 SEK).

Chargers defeat Fredonia
FREDONIA — Free throws were the key for the Cherryvale High School Chargers in their 70-61 win against Fredonia on Friday night.
Cherryvale was leading by two points after the first quarter and scored 26 points in the second for a 38-28 halftime lead. It was 46-35 Cherryvale after three quarters.

Northeast tops Erie boys
ERIE — Northeast of Arma kept the Erie Red Devils from getting enough good looks at the basket on Friday night, resulting in a 50-41 home loss for Erie.
Erie coach Caleb Reimer said the Vikings did a good job of altering the Devils' shots and making them uncomfortable down low. His team also didn't do as well getting to the free throw line.

COFFEYVILLE — The Labette County High School Grizzlies kept close to Coffeyville here Friday for the first half, but turnovers changed the tone of the game in the second half. Coffeyville won 84-57.

COLONY — The Oswego Indians fell behind early but managed to handle Colony-Crest on Friday night, 47-42.
Colony had a 9-5 advantage heading into the second quarter, but the Indians led 21-17 by halftime. From there, Oswego controlled the game.

ST. PAUL — The St. Paul Indians scored almost as many points in the first quarter as Altoona-Midway scored for the whole game on Friday night.

The Parsons Middle School basketball teams played host to Pittsburg Thursday night and finished with a 3-1 record.
The seventh-grade B team overcame an 18-2 deficit to win 33-31.

The Galesburg boys completed their season Thursday with a game against Neodesha
The Timberwolves began play with a 25-6 loss in the C game. JJ Burch was the high scorer with eight points and Gage Ruark added six.

The Galesburg girl’s basketball team took on Humboldt on Monday in a road game.
After going scoreless in the fourth quarter, the Timberwolves nearly lost the game but held on for a 33-32 victory.
