Parsons 10-year-olds advance to state tournament
The Parsons 10-year-old all-star baseball team punched its ticket to the state tournament Sunday with a 13-3 victory over Independence in Coffeyville in the final game of the 10-year-old District 5 tournament.
Parsons bounced out to a 4-0 lead through an inning of play after retiring all three Indy batters in the top of the first before Luke Wolgamott, Joel Schibi and Connor Eichinger had RBI singles in the bottom of the first.

At 6 p.m. on Aug 10, free physicals will be available for all USD 506 athletes at Performance Enhancement Physical Therapy located at 2100 Commerce Road in Parsons. The physicals will be conducted by several area doctors.
No student athlete will be allowed to participate in athletics in the 2011-12 school year until all physical forms have been completed and signed.

Pirates come back to win tourney
The Pirates played the role of comeback kids all tourney long. The result won them a postseason title.
Playing their fifth game of the week, the Eyecare Associates Pirates won the Parsons Babe Ruth 11-12 tournament Friday night with an 8-7 victory over the Commercial Bank Rangers.

The Parsons High School football team will have its summer football camp beginning on Monday and running through July 15 from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Parsons High School practice field behind the school.
The camp will focus on fundamentals and will include offensive and defensive schemes for the 2011 season. This will be the first camp under new PHS head coach David Pitts.

The 2011 Labette County High School football camp will run from Monday through July 14 for grade and middle school students and will run from July 11 to July 15 for high school students.
The camp will focus on fundamentals of the game of football. Basics of the Labette County team offense and defense also will be stressed.

The Mound Valley Flagpole Festival 5K took place in Mound Valley on June 25. Talon Thompson, who won the 15-19 year male division, finished the the race with the top overall time (18:31). Michaela Ozier, who won the 15-19 year old female division, was the top female runner overall (22:47).

Parsons 13-15s split with Columbus
The Parsons Bleacher Gear 13-15 year old Babe Ruth team split with Columbus Wednesday evening in Columbus.
The Parsons squad came back from a 3-2 deficit through three innings by scoring the games last four runs in the opener to win 6-3.

Athletics advance in tourney
The PPOA Athletics advanced in the 11-12 year old Babe Ruth League postseason tourney on Tuesday with a 9-8 come-from-behind victory over the Laforge and Budd Royals.

The D&Z Yankees knocked off the Tank Connection White Sox Tuesday evening 9-6 thanks to a strong showing in the first three innings.
The Yankees led 3-0 after one and 5-1 after two before adding another three-run inning in the third.
The White Sox made a surge in the fourth when they scored four runs to make it 8-4 at the time, but after the Yankees scored in the bottom of the fourth, a fifth inning was not played due to time restraints.

Oswego, Labette teams place at state
Thirteen seven- and eight-year-old Oswego boys recently participated in the Kansas Cal Ripkin 8 & Under Rookie Tournament in Haysville.
There were five other teams in the tournament, including Labette County.

The Parsons Dolphins followed last week’s first-place finish in Pittsburg with a fourth overall this weekend in Monett.
The Dolphins competed in the Monett Waterthrashers Invitational Swim Meet on Saturday and Sunday and finished with a fourth overall at the event.

The Parsons Bleacher Gear 13-15 year old Babe Ruth team split a pair of games with Coffeyville Friday evening at Winway Park by finishing the double-dip with a 9-7 win and 18-14 loss.
The home team rode a six-run second inning to the win in game one.
