Chargers, Devils named all-league in Tri-Valley
Cherryvale and Erie High School had athletes listed on the 2012-13 Tri-Valley League Basketball Team.
Cherryvale’s Jasi Adkison and Erie’s Bret McGuire were first team selections.
State champ Burlington had their starting five listed on the first team, while Caney Valley had three players listed —Bethany Barlow, Desiree Nelson and Makenzie Vining. Cherryvale, Erie, Fredonia and Eureka had one player apiece on the first team.
Grizzlies drop opening softball doubleheader
BAXTER SPRINGS — Host Baxter Springs swept a softball doubleheader from Labette County on Thursday in the season-opener.
Baxter Springs won game one 13-2 and then took the second game 12-1.
In the opener, Rachel Stevenson had two singles and a double for the Grizzlies, while Kristen Hennen had two singles.
Aubri Kimbrough pitched for the Grizzlies.
In the second game, Baxter Springs led 3-1 when they scored six runs in the third inning.
Labette County wins Sedan tourney
SEDAN — The Labette County High School baseball team captured first place at the season-opening Sedan Tournament on Thursday.
The Grizzlies defeated Sedan 11-0 in the first round. Labette County beat Caney Valley 9-5 in the championship game.

LCC names Phillips new wrestling coach
The Labette Community College athletic department will soon have two coaches named Ryan Phillips.
Labette Community College has named Ryan Phillips as its new head wrestling coach for the Cardinals.
Phillips comes to LCC from Upper Iowa University, where he’s been an assistant coach for six years. Phillips will begin work on April 15.

When the dust settled on an eventful and sometimes wild twin-bill, the Labette Community College softball team was left with its first loss in conference play.
Labette split a doubleheader with Independence on Thursday, winning game one 5-4 in extra innings.

LCC softball sweeps Neosho County
The Labette Community College softball team improved to 6-0 in the Jayhawk East with a sweep over Neosho County on Tuesday.
In the first game, Labette beat Neosho County 6-0. Labette won game two 8-0.
In game one, Morgan Gilmore got the win for LCC, going four innings. Gilmore allowed no earned runs, struck out one and gave up seven hits.

Vikings feature new faces as tennis season begins

Several new faces got their first tastes of varsity competition for the Parsons High School boys tennis team on Tuesday at the Columbus Titan Tennis Meet at Forest Park.
With the exception of two experienced seniors, the Vikings looked much different on Tuesday than the team that finished third at the Class 4A State Tournament last spring.
Nevertheless, the Vikings won the invite with 10 wins.

Solid seasons on the court translated into all-league honors for several members of the Labette County Grizzlies and Parsons Vikings.

The Labette Community College baseball team got the bats going in a big way on Monday.
The Cardinals scored 29 runs in two games as they swept a doubleheader from visiting Evangel.
Labette won the first game 15-0 and then took game two 14-0.

Two members of the Labette Community College men’s basketball team were listed on the 2012-13 All Jayhawk East Team.
Anthony Elechi was a second team all-league selection. The 6-8 freshman averaged 11 points and eight rebounds per game.

The Coffeyville Red Ravens took two of three from the Labette Community College baseball team over the weekend.
The teams split a doubleheader on Friday and Coffeyville won on Saturday before the series finale was postponed due to the wet weather.
