Freshman outside hitter Erin Duncan slams a kill at the net for the Labette Community College volleyball team on Monday night against Hesston College. Duncan is a St. Paul native. Hesston defeated LCC 29-27, 25-19, 22-25, 22-25, 15-10. Labette is now 2-18 on the season. The Cardinals are home again tonight at 5:30 p.m. against Johnson County. LCC is also home on Friday vs. Cottey College.

Middle School Vikings sweep Indy
The Parsons Middle School Vikings continued their winning ways Thursday traveling to Independence and coming home with two victories. In seventh grade action the Vikings were impressive winning 32-6. Keshaun Anderson scored three times on runs of 84, 54, and 45 yards. TJ Mayhue scored once on a 75 yard run and ran in three conversion. Austin Lee also added a conversion.

GIRARD — Ashley Spencer couldn’t have scripted it much better.
In the program’s first year of existence, Spencer’s Labette County High School girls golf team is headed to the state tournament.

Parsons took second place at the Independence Class 4A Girls Tennis Regional on a cold, gray Saturday at Riverside Park.

Poor practices lead to Viking loss

RIVERTON — Frustrated after a disappointing night, David Pitts walked off the football field hoping his Parsons Vikings will learn from the experience.
Riverton hammered Parsons 54-6 on a chilly Friday evening at Wyatt Laughlin Field in Week Six of the 2012 high school football season.

Web update: Vikings still alive at tennis regional, state berths secured
Four members of the Parsons Vikings will compete at the Independence Tennis Regional on Saturday after staying alive on Friday.
The doubles team of Bree Rogers and Kelsey Jump, and singles player Malina Kipp have advanced to the regional semifinals with wins on Friday. With that, state berths have been secured for Rogers/Jump and Kipp.

Chargers come back
EUREKA — The Cherryvale Chargers were down 14-7 going into the fourth quarter here Friday night when three touchdowns gave the Chargers a 29-22 road victory.
Zach Trim started the offensive spurt with a 7-yard touchdown run. Drew Housel added two more TDs on lengthy runs, one for 77 yards. Housel had 18 carries for 258 yards on the night, generating much of the Chargers’ offense.

ST. PAUL — St. Paul High School routed Pleasanton here Friday night 48-0.
The game ended before the fourth quarter was over because of the mercy rule.
St. Paul senior quarterback Anthony Diskin scored five of the Indians’ touchdowns in the victory. He collected 128 yards on 10 carries Friday night. Sophomore Alex McCracken had nine carries for 71 yards for the Indians.

FORT SCOTT — Fort Scott High School defeated Labette County here 41-6 Friday night.
Fort Scott built a 21-0 lead after a quarter and entered the locker room at halftime with a 35-0 lead.
Victor Hughes did most of the damage for the Tigers, carrying the ball 14 times and gaining 206 yards. Marques Floyd gained 112 yards on 11 carries for Fort Scott.

INDEPENDENCE — Runners from Parsons and Labette County High School competed at the Independence Cross Country Invitational on Thursday at the ICC campus.

Fuentez wins third-straight city golf title
Tony Fuentez won his third-straight City Golf Championship on Sunday by shooting a two under par 70 at the Katy Golf Club. Mark Ludwig finished second.
Ludwig fired a one over 71 on Saturday at Parsons Golf and Fitness and held a six stroke lead over Fuentez going into Sunday. However, a front nine six over saw his lead vanish.

The Labette Community College volleyball team lost to eighth-ranked Butler on Wednesday, as the hosts beat the Cardinals 25-12, 25-10, 25-15. Labette is now 2-17 on the season. Butler improved to 18-3.
