Grizzlies fifth at Garnett golf invite
GARNETT — The Labette County High School girls golf team competed at the Anderson County Invitational on Monday.
LCHS freshman Erica Gartner led the Grizzlies with a seventh place finish. Gartner shot a 95. Renae White finished 13th (100), Abbie Callahan was 31st (113) and Shania Riley finished 40th (121).

Middle School Vikings earn wins over Royster
The Parsons Middle School football team played host to the Royster Rockets from Chanute and came away with two wins last Thursday night.
The seventh grade Vikings scored three times in the first two quarters while holding Chanute to one score to take a 18-8 halftime lead.
Keyshaun Anderson scored twice on runs of 13 and 15 yards and Kyle Dickens scored once from one yard out.

Golfers head to regional on Monday
A trip to state will be on the line for area girls golfers on Monday, Oct. 8 at the Girard Class 4A Girls Golf Regional.
The top three teams plus the top five individuals not on the top three teams will advance to state.

Vikings take second at SEK Meet

Just two months ago Jane Posch was wondering if her Parsons High School girls tennis team would be able to compete with the league’s best.
With several new faces at the varsity level, and with a couple of talented players moving on, those concerns were justified in August.
But on Saturday, the Parsons Vikings tied for second at the SEK League Girls Tennis Tournament at Forest Park.

CHANUTE — Chanute is undefeated for a reason.
Both Labette County and Parsons found out why on Saturday at the 34th Annual Chanute Invitational Volleyball Tournament.
State-ranked Chanute defeated Labette County 25-17, 25-13 in the tourney’s title match.

ALTAMONT — The Labette County High School football team had a two-game winning streak snapped with a 20-13 loss to Prairie View on Friday night.

Volleyball sub-state assignments released
Parsons and Labette County will compete at the Pittsburg Class 4A Volleyball Sub-State on Saturday, Oct. 20. Teams competing at Pittsburg are LCHS, Baxter Springs, Columbus, Fort Scott, Frontenac, Girard, Parsons and the host Purple Dragons.
The other SEK teams (Chanute, Coffeyville, Independence) are competing at the El Dorado Sub-State. Sub-state champions in 4A advance to Salina for the state tournament.

OSWEGO — Oswego High School lost to Southeast here Friday night 44-30.
The Indians generated about 500 yards of offense in the loss, but also allowed close to that for the visiting Lancers.

Girls golf teams in the region compete in the SE-KAN. Scores are totaled up from the area tournaments and golfers are ranked by their performances. The Labette County High School girls golf team finished third in the team standings at Thursday’s Columbus Invitational.
Chanute was first with a 215 and Fort Scott was second (223). Labette was third with a 229.

The 2012-13 Kansas State High School Activities Association classifications were released on Thursday.
None of the Parsons-area schools were affected. There were no changes in the SEK League, either. All of the league schools remain in Class 4A. Pittsburg is one of the largest schools in 4A (710).
