Sixteen area teams entered the boys’ fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade BEARS (Better Edna Area Relations and Support) Basketball Tournament March 5-10 at the Edna Community Building.
Medals were given to second- and third-place teams while the winning team was awarded a trophy.
Sixth-grade teams were entered from Altamont, Edna, Meadow View, Mound Valley, Oswego and St. Patrick’s.

Six locals land on all-SEK first team
The Southeast Kansas League has announced its selections for the 2011-2012 basketball season.
Leading the way on the first team were two Parsons High School players from the SEK co-champion Viking squad.

The Labette Community College women's basketball team completed the season Saturday evening in Wichita with a 69-45 loss to Hutchinson (31-0) in the second round of the NJCAA Region VI tourney.

The Parsons Wrestling Club had 24 wrestlers make the trip to Pittsburg Saturday to compete in the District 1 South Sub-District tournament at Pittsburg State University.

The Labette Community College men’s basketball team fell 78-75 to Cloud County Wednesday evening in Concordia to complete the 2011-12 season.

After opening with two wins Sunday, the LCC baseball team settled for a four-game split with Johnson County after taking two losses Monday afternoon in Overland Park.

Two local wrestlers named to all-SEK team
Parsons High School senior Thatcher Murdock and Labette County High School senior Spencer Gatewood were named to this year’s all-Southeast Kansas League wrestling team, which was released Tuesday.
Murdock was a state-qualifier in Class 4A and finished with a 33-7 record overall in the 132-pound division. Jacob Durossette of Fort Scott earned the first-team bid at 132 pounds.

Labette Community College will host a regional opener.
The LCC women's basketball team won its second in a row and third game in the last four tries with an 89-66 victory over Fort Scott Community College Saturday evening in Parsons.

Sixteen area boys basketball teams are entered in the annual Better Edna Area Relations and Support (BEARS) Basketball Tournament to be held 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each weekday evening and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday in the Edna Community Building beginning March 5 through March 10.

Parsons Wrestling Club splits for two events Saturday
The Parsons Wrestling Club sent 17 wrestlers to Park City to compete in the annual Wichita Classic held at Hartman Arena this weekend.
There were 805 wrestlers from 74 different teams competing on Saturday. PWC had two individual champions in the tourney and had seven total placers for the day.

COFFEYVILLE — In the end, it was poor shooting that did the Vikings in.
After shooting over 50 percent for the game in Friday’s win over Labette County, the Parsons High School basketball team made just 12 of 63 attempts Saturday night in a 63-45 loss to substate-host Coffeyville.
