Seventeen local athletes qualified for state in 13 different events at the Girard-hosted Class 4A track and field regional Friday afternoon. Two Labette County High School spring coaches have been named the Southeast Kansas League Coaches of the Year. LCHS softball coach, whose 23-0 softball team will travel to the Class 4A state tourney in Salina this weekend, was named the COY in softball. Four Parsons High School swimmers and three from the St. Paul High School swimming team competed in the Class 5-1A state swimming & diving championships in Topeka over the weekend. Free physicals
Labette County High School will offer two sessions of free physicals this year. The first round of physicals will be on Friday for athletes interested in getting the physicals early for the 2012-13 school year. A July 27 session also is scheduled. The physicals will be administered from 6 to 8 p.m. in the LCHS cafeteria on both dates.

The CST Storage Cardinals defeated the D&Z Royals Monday evening in 9- and 10-year-old Babe Ruth League action.
