Labette County produced 1,560,000 bushels of wheat in 1971, a year that the Kansas Crop and Livestock Reporting Service said was one of the best in Kansas’ agricultural history. The county’s wheat yield averaged 39 bushels to the acre, the report said. Neosho County had a yield of 40 bushels to an acre and produced 1,160,000 bushels.

WALNUT — Walnut is hosting its first Labor Day 5K Fun Run.
