Greg Traxson, a senior at Labette County High School in Altamont, participated as a trumpeter in the Kansas International Band that received third place in parade competition at the Lions International Convention on June 30 in Atlanta. A petty officer first class from Cherryvale, Kenneth Ellis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ellis of Cherryale, was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for outstanding service as ship’s office supervisor aboard the oiler USS Genesee when it was in the western Pacific.
