Goins is a four-year member of the Lady Grizzlies who have won three Southeast Kansas League titles in a row. Goins is a three-year starter for the team and was an all-SEK first team selection in 2011 at first base. This season, Goins is hitting .447 and has an on-base percentage of .517 and slugging percentage of .629. She also leads the team in steals with 13. Goins is also a member of the National Honor Society and was a Kansas Governor Scholar this year. The LCHS Lady Grizzlies enter this year's state softball tourney as the No. 1 seed with their 23-0 record. They'll take on Mulvane at 5 p.m. on Friday in Salina.

Parsons Chamber of Commerce Leadership Labette board member Tony Encarnacion hands a plaque to Tony Fuentez of Parsons during the 2012 Leadership Labette graduation Thursday in the Commercial Bank community room. Other Leadership Labette class members included Rikke Mitchell, Jared Ludwig, Gary Schenck, Ruth Schenck, Misti Mustain, Sandra Dickerson, Jody Burzinski, Preston Haddan, Leatha Thompson, Jolene Gaier and Peter Cook. The class raised more than $20,000 for playground and gym equipment for all of the elementary schools in Labette County. Class members also volunteered their labor in clearing the brush from a walking trail in Oswego.

The game lasted 10 innings, but Parsons prevailed thanks to a leadoff single from Katie Teel in the 10th inning. PHS will play Labette County (21-0) at 3 p.m. in Girard on Wednesday in the regional semis.
