All of the youths who worked on his home this week decorated a canvas with their hand prints, signed it and wrote Phillips a personal message.

Two members from each of the eight teams entered in this weekend’s state tourney competed in the derby. Schibi stepped to the plate last and in need of two home runs to tie leader Cesar Breinga of Cimarron River. Schibi came up with four homers to win the event outright. Parsons team member Luke Wolgamott hit one home run and tied for third overall. Cyrus Kitchen of Osawatomie took first overall in the pitching contest. Parsons pitchers Noah Chalker and Drew Fuentez were entered in that event. The 11-year-old state tourney will kick off today in Winway Park at Sonny Johnson Field. Parsons will play Cimarron River at 7:30 p.m.
