Brogan was one of the competitors in the Battle for the Cup Saturday at PKY Skate Park in Parsons. He won third place in the advanced division and won first in the best trick contest. One of his tricks was a boardslide on a wide rail, which he rode from the top of a ramp all the way down.

The Portas won a prize for the youngest “walker,” Alexandria. Organizers also recognized Lisah Stephens, who raised the most money and captained the team that raised the most money.  Other team members were Anna Stephens, Delores Shaw, Maria Cervantes and Chris Stephens.

Fifteen local, nonprofit organizations united together to help the Labette County United Way raise $1,837.68, not including additional T-shirt sales. Walk United T-shirts may still be purchased by contacting the Labette County Chapter of the American Red Cross at 421-4150.

Thirty-one LCHS students are working to construct the new building on-site. Instructor Eddie Green said the students should finish the building by spring break.
