The Portas won a prize for the youngest “walker,” Alexandria. Organizers also recognized Lisah Stephens, who raised the most money and captained the team that raised the most money. Labette Emergency Assistance Center director LeeAnn Spencer walks with Capt. Kettle of The Salvation Army and Richard Scott Saturday morning during a fun walk at Forest Park to benefit Labette County United Way. Fifteen local, nonprofit organizations united together to help the Labette County United Way raise $1,837.68, not including additional T-shirt sales. Walk United T-shirts may still be purchased by contacting the Labette County Chapter of the American Red Cross at 421-4150.

Labette County High School residential carpentry students constructing the new Altamont City Park Community Building work Thursday morning to wrap it prior to installing siding to prevent air and water infiltration. Thirty-one LCHS students are working to construct the new building on-site. Instructor Eddie Green said the students should finish the building by spring break.
