Angel Wolkey was crowned 2013 Tamasha Queen on Friday night at Labette County High School. Wolkey was escorted by Clay Weaver, at left. The other candidates were Sadie Atkins, Ebony Rakestraw, Maddie Brothers and Talara Renfroe. The crown bearer was Matthew Starr and the flower girl was Lily Wiley.

April Amos works on a floral arrangement for Valentine's Day Thursday at All Seasons Floral, 2503 Main, while co-owner Kris Clemens fills a vase with water. A flower shop crew worked until 2 a.m. Thursday preparing orders before returning to work at 8:30 a.m. By about 11 a.m., the shop had delivered about 200 of its at least 511 Valentine's orders using four vehicles.

McDaniel, who was born in 1895 in Wichita, performed in “Gone With the Wind” and was the first African-American woman to sing on the radio.
