A Labette Health Ambulance Service worker sprays a house fire for a moment before feeding the hose to a Parsons firefighter at a vacant home at 816 S. 24th on Tuesday. Firefighters were called at 11:11 a.m. to the fire. The house was engulfed in flames when they arrived. The fire was under control at 11:51 a.m. The house owned by LaToya Fields of Moorhead, Miss., was estimated to be a total loss, firefighters said. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Parsons fire and police departments. Jane Kite receives a “gold” watch on Friday morning from Country Mart vice president Craig Dickey as a joke during Kite’s retirement reception at the Parsons grocery store. Kite began working for Country Mart in July 1990 when the store bought Greaves Nu-Way, for which she had worked since 1973. Kite said she plans to travel and “get caught up on things” during retirement. She said she was fortunate to be able to work for a very good, family-oriented company. She retired as the head clerk but also worked as a meat wrapper with Greaves.
