Robert Mundt (not pictured) created expansion joints and also helped build the floor. The crew from Acme Floor Co. of Lenexa pulled their supply boards from the stack laid out in front of them using their feet. The new wood floor should be ready for public use later this month. Acme won the project with a bid of $56,000. The Parsons Recreation Commission also bought new bleachers at a cost of $16,500 from Facil-Serv in Dandridge, Tenn.

The work has been done in layers with a moisture barrier going down first, then insulated sheathing followed by plywood. The new wood floor should be ready for public use later this month. Acme Floor Co. of Lenexa is installing the floor and won the project with a bid of $56,000. Levi Eck (center), a firefighter with the Hackberry Township Fire Department, is pulled from a grain bin Friday during training at the annual Labette Community College Fire School, which ends today. Eck played the role of a person trapped in a grain bin that required the rescue of firefighters. Kenny Christensen (left), also a Hackberry Township firefighter, and Mike Cook (right), an instructor, pull Eck from the bin. Eck was only buried up to his waist, but reported a tremendous amount of pressure on his body during the simulation. Gary Charlson sings and plays rhythm guitar for the classic rock band The Crayons Thursday in the Parsons Municipal Auditorium. Steve Davis (right) played lead guitar for the band, which is based in the Kansas City area. Their performance, moved from the Seaton Family Pavilion in Forest Park to the auditorium because of the weather, was the first in the summertime Music in the Park concert series.
