Labette Community College sophomore guard Raven Taylor blocks penetration from a Barton County guard Wednesday evening. The LCC women's basketball team faced a 42-28 deficit Wednesday at home in a win-and-go-home game against the Lady Cougars. However, LCC closed the second half on a 27-13 to force overtime and eventually won 69-63 while there. LCC will take on unbeaten Hutchinson in the quarterfinals of the Region VI NJCAAA tourney Saturday in Wichita.

The Poulenc Trio performs at the beginning of Tuesday evening’s Parsons Area Concert Association show in Parsons Municipal Auditorium. The concert wrapped up PACA’s 2011-12 series. Performers scheduled for next season’s series include country music singer Collin Raye and Masters of Motown, who present a show that celebrates the artists who came out of Detroit.

Parsons High School senior Sierra Kemp blocks a shot attempt from Girard junior Hadyn Herlocker Saturday evening in Coffeyville. The Vikes had trouble stopping Herlocker Saturday. She scored 29 points and led the Trojans to a 70-66 victory over the Lady Vikings, who trailed 40-29 at the half before pulling into a tie through three quarters. The Lady Vikings finish the season at 17-6 overall and were the Southeast Kansas League champions this season.

Parsons High School senior Wes Krull passes to an open teammate while being guarded by Coffeyville's Quinton Hershey Saturday evening in Coffeyville. The Parsons boy's basketball team fell to Coffeyville 63-45 in the substate championship game. The one-seeded Vikes fall to 20-3 on the year with the loss and finish the season a game away from a return to the state tournament. Parsons trailed 19-17 after a quarter of play but shot 0-13 in the second and Coffeyville led 31-20 at the break on the way to the double-digit win.
