Parsons Middle School seventh-grade student Lourdes Martinez portrays Hattie McDaniel during a famous Kansans event Wednesday. Seventh-graders researched a famous Kansan, created information boards and donned costumes to tell visitors about who they were portraying. McDaniel, who was born in 1895 in Wichita, performed in “Gone With the Wind” and was the first African-American woman to sing on the radio.
