William L. “Bill” Hoisington, 83, of Parsons passed away at 8:10 a.m. Sunday, June 9, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society of Parsons. 

He was born June 15, 1935, in Wichita the son of James H. and Opal Helen (Campbell) Hoisington. Bill grew up and attended schools in Parsons, graduating in 1954 from Parsons High School, where he excelled in football, basketball and track. Following high school, Bill attended Tulsa University and the Kansas State Teacher’s College of Pittsburg for a time. He later received an associate’s degree from the Parsons Junior College. 

Bill served in the United States Army for two years and the U.S. Army Reserve for six years. Bill enjoyed watching old westerns. He also enjoyed raising bird dogs, fishing, hunting quail, ducks, goose and prairie chicken. He was a master hunter safety course instructor and led the first hunter safety course given in Parsons.

On June 5, 1959, Bill and Sonya Flora married in Parsons. Sonya preceded him in death on April 6, 2008.

Survivors include three sons, Michael Hoisington of Parsons, Marc Hoisington and his wife, Tina, of Rogers, Arkansas, and Matt Hoisington and his wife, Peggy, of Parsons; eight grandchildren, Kerri Hall and her husband, Adam, of Parsons, Kye Hoisington of Parsons, Brandon Hoisington of Maumelle, Arkansas, Samuel Hoisington of Washington, D.C., William Hoisington of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Abigail Hoisington of Rogers, Arkansas, Emily Hoisington of Rogers, Arkansas,

and Mickey Hoisington of Parsons; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jayne and her husband, Don, of California.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sonya, and his parents.

A celebration of life visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home. Burial will take place at a later time at Oakwood Cemetery.
