OSWEGO — The Labette County Commission on Monday approved a resolution allowing a 10-year tax exemption for Parsons Fertilizer Inc., a company that will manufacture a slow-release fertilizer at Great Plains Industrial Park.

Now Great Plains and the company will take the application for the exemption to the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals, which will make the final decision on the exemption. The Kansas Legislature this year passed a law allowing businesses leasing property to seek tax exemptions in former federal enclaves. Formerly businesses had to own the property to seek an exemption. Great Plains is at the former Kansas Army Ammunition Plant.
